The Book is Coming Together!

After taking a bit of a hiatus on the Nepali songbook project, I'm finally back into the swing of compiling and designing the songbook. It's called Saaja Phoolbari - Our Garden, and it is a collection of original folksongs referencing the diverse music that originates throughout Nepal.

The goal is to have this resource for our music classrooms in the Himalayas by next year in June (in time for the arrival of Nischal at our partner school as a full time music teacher). This first edition will include 8 songs with accompanying lessons uncovering some musical and cultural aspects of the song.

I am so excited for this project! It brings our team together since we're all songwriting, arranging, researching, and recording/producing the music for the book. But more than that, I love how we are doing our best to learn about, share, treasure the rich musical heritage of the surrounding regions of our partner schools.

There's still one more song to write and three more chapters to compile - so still some work to do. But here are some screenshots of the progress...
